A New Beginning at PMA

*Originally published on Sep. 18, 2017 from my old website.

Hello friends! My recent post on Facebook might have brought you here on this page (or if this article is a decade old, you might just be one of those people who randomly went through my site until you found this. Although what I just said won't make sense 'til 2027 but oh well. Hello future!) Anyway, this is my personal blog and I must say, the firsts have always been the hardest thing to do. So let me just keep this casual.

First of all, I am very glad that after all the trials and error I did on my website, I have finally managed to release the official layout. One of the primary reasons why I made this is to build a storehouse of all the shots that I’ve taken during my previous travels. The second reason is, I have slowly felt uncomftable posting personal stuff on FB and you know, the FB reading culture isn’t fitting for long paragraphs so I thought of creating this. Tada! My first blog post.

Let me show you a selfie of how my surroundings look now as I am typing this.

If you’re not familiar, I am now at the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio City – sitting here on the bench facing the Borromeo Field – an area within the 373-hectare compound where they held most of their ceremonies, silent drills or welcoming of the new cadets. Why am I here? Why not? It’s the Philippine Military Academy! If only I’m just 21, I would have already signed up for this year but unfortunately I’m 3 years late so never mind.

The place is located on top of a mountain with strong, relaxing and chilly wind coming from all over. It’s a perfect place to think and unwind. I’m facing a mountain wearing a cotton candy hat that’s covering almost half of its face. Cadets keep passing by, walking up and down the stairs with footsteps almost audible even from a 15m distance. Student guards roam around with their long weapons. Cadets greeting me with “Hello Sir!” that every time they do it I look back to make sure if it’s really me they’re talking to but then I realized I was leaning on a wall. It’s obvious what they’re taught here is something more than just being a soldier, but also the simplest human traits that a lot of people outside of this compound have totally forgotten.

I didn’t expect to have this powerhouse of courage and integrity to be the birthplace of my very first article. I just hope that this eagle will pass its bold genetics and make me able to soar higher and go farther. Cheers to the first post!
