Benedicto Cabrera or better known as BenCab is a "National Artist of the Philippines" awardee who owns a self-named museum in Baguio City.
Honestly, before I stepped in to this museum, I never knew anything about this national artist guy. I’m an artist myself but not really the type who fanboys a lot to painters since I'm more of into photography. However, this visit blew my mind. I was mesmerized by Mr. Cabrera’s AWESOME pieces. His title is well-deserved, and I think the word “awesome” is way much an understatement.
I’m definitely a fan now.
Below is a slideshow of some of his works.
I noticed that there were also a lot of other notable artists being featured in his museum, but I was most enticed at these watercolor portraits by Gregory Raymond Halili.
The details are crazy thin and asdkauhwduawlhdlwida. I don’t know. I wanted to take it home. Seriously.
From afar, this is how small they actually are.
There was also an ongoing exhibit at this corner.
Be warned by the label. You will be raped by intense visual artistry inside.
Of all those that visited, I observed that I was the only person who took too long staring at each paintings while all the others were only taking photos, pass by and walk out. I believe it really takes an artist to really appreciate and try to comprehend these ineffable creations.
BenCab Museum also has other amenities on the lower ground and on its backyard.
The waterfalls which I doubt if it's natural or man-made. Either way, it's still under renovation and looks like an interesting feature to this museum.
Apart from the Erotica Gallery, they've also managed to keep it green on the outside. (Oh goodness, Kevin!)
Lastly, I wasn’t sure if Mr. Cabrera usually comes to his museum on a daily basis, but I was very surprised to see the 75-year old national artist guy in person. Look at me fanboying right there.
